When I was 11 years old I was hunting with my step-dad in Bedford Virginia. We were in a bottom on a piece of land we lease there. He finally at abought 9:30 looked at me and told me to stay where I was he had to use the bathroom and he would be back in a few minutes. The trail going into the bottom winds down one side then runs parallel to the top of the hill on the other side.We have a trail that puts us out on a rock ledge that just goes like 30 feet from the big trail. When he got to the top of the short trail I looked down in the bottom and saw something jump in the brush. As I turned to my dad to tell him I figured well it could be anything so I just let him go on.Well I looked down the bottom a few minutes later and saw the deer I had seen before and my dad still wasn't back.I pulled up the scope and counted 8 points as it walked up the hill. After watching the deer for about 3 or 4 minutes I found my spot and I shot. The shot hit exactly where I wanted it to.The buck came up on it's front legs and fell backwards down the hill and into the bottom. It was my first antlered buck.He weighed 170 dressed and I later found out he was at 197 yards when I shot.

Did you Dad help you find it, or did you have to show him where it was? Bet he was just as proud as if shooting it himself!

Just shows the importance of keeping your gun within reach, even (or maybe especially) when your pants are down around your ankles!
