I am looking for information on hunting feral hogs around the Montesano area. Any help on this would be greatly appriciated. This is going to be my 10 year old sons first hunt with dad. I already got all the information I could from the WSFG and am looking for a little practical info. By the way my son will be using an H&R single shot 20 g. loaded with slug. Of coarse dad will be backing him up with an 870 12 g. loaded to the gills with 00 buck. This is his hunt and all kills will be his and his alone. I am going to be guide and dad not hunting.

Check over on www.texasboars.com message boards, and post the same question. I think that there are some people over there who have hunted hogs in Wash. state.
I'd forget about the 00 buck, use slugs also in your 12.
School him on shot placement, and review what's on that site as well for recommendations. If you get very far behind the shoulder, you're into the guts, lungs are much smaller than a deer.
Good luck!

Good luck. I live about 25 miles east of Monte and have been in that area looking for the hogs five or six times. We have not even seen a track. I think the WDW hit the panic button on the issue and over publicized the topic in the local papers. I have yet to talk to anyone that has seen a pig in the area. I talked to one local that said a local pig farmer had let a few go rather than take further loses and the locals shot them early. I don't know of any huntable numbers anywhere in Washington. There are rumors of hogs in the Vale area east of Tenino and somewhere in the Long Beach area but I have never seen one in eather place.
The area that is supose to have the pigs in the Monte area is north of town about five miles. If you stop at the regional office of the WDW in Montie they will be more than happy to point you in the right direction. That offices is located just off of highway 8 on the west end of town.
Let me know if you run into them. Ihave hunted pigs in California, Georgia and Tennessee and think they are just about the most fun.

I've heard that there are still pigs around the grisdale area. I believe there is a swamp on the right just after the road that heads off to Matlock. I talked to a guy a couple of months ago that had taken a couple there. He said there was plenty of sign in the area and the hog trails were very well defined. I am prolly too late and if so how'd you do?

Wolfe and Klickitat, hi there, I have hunted the Wynoochee area/Grisdale area for the last ten years and have yet to see a track or pig. I usually spend a week in there during deer and a couple of weekends during elk season. If you do find them let me know.

Sure-Shot: I saw two hogs crossing the 2200 line about midway between 101 and the Wynoochee road. No chance for a shot.

Well guess it is time to go do some wandering down there and see if I can find them. Thanks for the heads up.

Sure-Shot: Of course as we both know, it is brushy in the extreme around there and seeing one in a place other than a logging road will require some considerable luck. Good Luck!

I too have been trying to find where the hogs are here (Montesano area), but so far have had no luck.
I heard that a neighbor had got a good sized one about a year ago, but talking to one of the gun shops around I was told he hadn't heard of any being seen in about 2 years or so.
If any1 finds an area to hunt them I would really apreciate some info, I am disabled and can not walk for a long amount of time or climb up and down a mountain to much so it would need to be a fairly easy place for me.
Thanks
