A friend sent me a video of a lion hunt. In the video, you have a couple of hunters with a guide walking up on a lion. Then the camera zooms in on the lion. As the lion is turning, one of the hunters shoots hitting it and rolling the lion. You see dust and then you see the lion stand up. The next scene, the hunters and guide are running to the side, trying to get another shot. You hear a lady with the group yelling, "Get him! Get him!" Then you see why. The lion is charging them. The hunters and the guide let loose with a volley of fire as the lion charges into the midst of them, tackling one of the hunters. The lion rolls to a stop. Then stands up and runs back the way he came. He gets about 50 - 70yds away and another shot is fired finishing him off. The video ends with the hunter who was tackling or knocked down turning to the camera and asking "Was that close enough?" He is showing his torn and bloody shirt. While doing so, he is muttering an expletive or two. It is truly amazing footage and its a wonder that none of the hunters were hurt or that they did not shoot each other when the lion ran in their midst. You can see the rounds hitting the ground all around them. Has anyone seen this video? I can email it to you if you are interested.

Saw it on another board. There was some question about a fence line to the right of the hunters and perhaps this was a "caged" hunt. Whatever, there was certainly a lot of shooting going on and it's a wonder someone other than the lion got shot. One guy in the background shoots, then falls down. May have been recoil or may have been excitement or nerves.
If it wasn't a caged hunt, it would be hard to explain all the people standing around - something you don't see on a regular hunt.

I took a look at the other board. there is defintely something there - I wonder if it is a power line in the distance (my video is of poor quality too). I also wonder about the number of people in the vicinity. It makes me wonder if it was a "non-caged" lion, was it hurt or something? I have never been to Africa, but I would assume that a "wild" lion would not allow such a big group of people to get near it unless something was wrong with it. Still a cool video, though. take care.

If you look at the end of the video you'll see the lion is still moving after the last shot for awhile. In my mind there's a bunch of bad shooting -you don't stand around like they did after the first shot -to see if the lion is down- if he still kicking he gets a quick followup shot!

A couple tid bits about that lion video,
The lion had killed several people before the professional hunters where called in. It had been trapped and moved to a lion only preserve where it was killing every lion it came in contact with. Then it was moved to another area where it dug out from to where these guys where called in to take it out.
The hunter from Corpus Christi was not new to hunting by any means, His first shot was a broadside shot that should have easily killed this. I don't remember the caliber he was shooting but it is illegal to shoot under something like 3.75 down there in South Africa at dangerous game. The P.H. had a double rifle H&H and by the time the lion swatted the client down it had 3 bullets in him.
The hunter told me the story before I saw the pictures and I blew him off as smoking something. Then I saw the clips on the south african's brochure. I went down and hunted plains game with them in June, and have a new respect for African game.
