Has any one used this one in a 30/30? I recently picked it up with the thought of it being a good round for my wifes Savage modle 840. Could I crimp on the first lube groove to get the bullet closer to the throat or would this cause accuracy to diminish? I have only used cast rifle bulets in single shots and would seat them to touch the lands with almost no crimp. My assumption is a cast bulet in a bolt action magazine needs to be crimped. What burnell would be best for velocities around 1,600 to1,800 f.p.s.? Would it be better to crimp on the driving band or in the lube groove? I appreciate your input.

Leon,
I don't crimp for my bolt guns. The neck pull is firm enough to keep the bullets in place and the crimp didn't improve accuracy or powder burn. As the ads state, your milage may vary.
A brinnel hardness of 12 to 14, air cooled W/W, should fill the bill nicely. The way you describe your seating practice is also the way I seat mine.-JDL
