Anyone ever tried PPing a revolver bullet? I'm thinking of trying it and wanted some advice for success or horror stories. Thanx.

I remeber two articals about this. One by Ross Seyfried and another that was in an old Guns magazine. I dont have either in front of me but I remember the gist. It did not work well at all.

Haven't gotten it to work. In single shot rifles, they've worked best when the paper patch was set hard into the rifling. IN lever guns, the patch should be just at (or slightly touching) the rifling....if the patch tears when cyling through the action, willg et a wild shot and some leading.
In revolvers, think the long jump through the cylinder mouth and forcing cone before hitting rifling may be the culprit.
Others may get them to work in wheelguns, I haven't put that much time into the attempt.

As I recall, Seyfried nixed paper patches in a revolver because, if the patch comes off between the cylinder and the barrel it can act like a barrel obstruction.
I haven't tried them, myself. They don't appear to give much benefit over lubricated lead at revolver velocities.
Now, I would like to try paper patched bullets in my 7TCU but the gun has some problems with the lockup mechanism I'll need to fix before I mess with it again. I reckon I could try paper patching .270 bullets to avoid buying a new mould ... at least until I get a feeling as to whether it will work or nay.

Well I couldn’t lay my hands on the Seyfried article from Guns & Ammo, it is from around 1990.
The other article is from Guns magazine November 1988. Raymond Page wrote; "Paper Patches For Modern Magnums". This interesting article features commercial paper patch bullets from Mr. Del Phillips who runs the Single Shot Shop, 16240 St. Paul Ave. S. E. Prior Lake, MN. 55372.
Page shot them in .44 Magnum and .45 Colt. These are double wrap smooth sided paper patch bullets of either pure lead or 16 - 1 lead - tin alloy. Bullets are custom sized to the shooters specs.
In the .44 Magnum he used a 20" Winchester M-94 top eject, a 10" Thompson Center Contender and a Ruger Bisley.
In the .45 Colt he used a 16" Winchester Trapper and a 10" TC Contender.
He also used Seville revolvers in both caliber's.
He shot over 300 rounds through the Ruger Bisley with very good results. He claimed one large hole groups at 25 yards benchrest with the Ruger Bisley. He does not say how many rounds he fired in the other guns.
He had no trouble with a roll crimp on the cartridges. He fed the completed rounds through the magazine of the lever action rifles. These bullets shot very well at 25 and 50 yards. He makes no mention of shooting at longer distances. He believed that his success was due to shooting relatively short bullets. Both bullets were 300 grains and were patched low on the nose. He measured pressure rings and said that his measurements were similar between the rifles, the TC's and the revolvers.
He did have some trace leading in the Bisley. When using Winchester 296 he also used soft gas checks from C.F. Ventures.
An interesting article if lacking in detail.
As I remember it Seyfried's article had pictures of patches failing as they were chambered in the cylinder.
