Anyone have a new Win 1885 ltd in 45-70? what do they think of it ? I`d like to get one in 45-70 or 38-55. My dealer had a 40-90 blk powder; no others though.

Got one for Christmas. The quality is fantastic. Much better than my Marlins.
Mine is a 45-70. I love the tang sight. May look for a scope for load developing. I have noticed a lot less case expansion on the heavier loads, but as yet have not done a lot of load testing with it.
I would say go for it. It was worth every penny.

Icedog,

Is your 1885 ltd heavy? I've always wanted to own a hiwall. I actually did have a Browning 1885 for about a week before I returned it. The dang thing was just too heavy and long. The barrel contour on the ltd looks trim in the pictures I have seen. What is the weight of your rifle? Thank you.

By the way, there is supposedly a B78 in 45-70 on it's way to me as we 'speak.' I sent the money, anyways.

After hunting the last almost 30 years with a .54 smoke pole with a heavy 32" barrel it doesnt seem so bad. My cheap fish scale says it weighs about 8.3lbs, it also says my 1895LTD V(with Leupold 1.75-6 scope)weighs about 8.4lbs.
Even with a 28" barrel it is only 2" longer than my 1895LTDV Marlin and it's 5" shorter than my muzzle loader. The barrel starts at 1.18" at the action and tapers to .75" at the muzzle.
To me, it's the best looking rifle I have seen.

Thanks for the info, Icedog. I have seen these on the auction sites and drooled all over the keyboard. Always wanted a hiwall. Actually, I just got one (a hiwall) this week, but it's not an LTD. It's a Browning B78. It has a 24 inch barrel in 45-70. I almost wish I had spent a little more money and bought the LTD. Maybe I'll just buy it too. :)
