View Full Version : clear Ruger rotary magazines

a while ago i saw some clear ruger rotary magazines for their rifles. great idea, but i was in too much of a hurry to get some. has anyone used em yet? i can't remember if the feed lips were plastic or metal like the old ones. i hope the rounds in the mag can be seen with the mag in the gun, because that's my only peeve with the 10/22, you have no way of knowing when the gun is empty until you pull the trigger and nuthin happens except the firing pin dents the barrel face. with the 77/22 you can feel the difference if you are paying attention, and sometimes avoid dry firing the gun.

Monty, being that the standard clip is completely enclosed in the receiver I imagine that any other clip will effectively "hide" the top 10rds as well. Maybe the only way to help with this is carrying a few extra mag's and get good at speedloading? When target shooting I'll count out 9 before reloading so to minimize first shot flyers typical with auto's. When hunting I'll dump a round into a stump at the beginning of the hunt, then proceed counting.

i wonder why ruger does not show these on their site, while CDNN lists them (factory ruger 40th anneversory mags) for $12.99

perforator: i'm thinkin you might see all but the last 2 or 3 rounds with the mag in the gun. i'll let ya know. i got some on order.

Can't remember were which mag. I seen a mag.
for 10/22 that when fireing the last round in the mag. it kept the action open.

finally got a chance to use the mags. they work just like the black ones, and the last five rounds cannot be seen from the bottom (with mag in the gun). ruger literature says these mags will only be available in 2004, so if you want one or two, don't wait too long.

Besides, if you are actually denting your barrel by dry firing it, I'd say being able to look through the magazine is the least of your issues.
