After emptying my Marlin 39A yesterday, following the final afternoon of the Pennsylvania squirrel season, I stood there looking at the dozen sub-sonic hollow points in my hand, and the little box they came in, and it occurred to me that putting them back in the little box like cord wood after the ones in the box had settled into a brass and lead conglomerate, wasn't very appealing. I thought that someone must have a better idea of what to do with .22 ammunition after you upset the origional arrangement.

My less than efficient solution is to dump the remaining bullets into an empty Tang container, mark it with a magic marker, and hope I can re-locate it the next time I'm going out to shoot.

Does someone have an efficient solution to containing .22 ammunition after the original box has been opened that is more efficient than having them shuffling around in your hunting vest? I would appreciate some brilliant ideas!

Thanks! The 1776 Patriot, an old fart who still enjoys a good squirrel stew.

i use the plastic boxes cci stingers come in. you can open the lid and dump out five or more at a time. hold 50, and the boxes are tuff.

Monty, Thanks for that suggestion. It sounds like I'll need to shoot a box of CCI stingers to achieve the desired empty starting box. I can do that.

We have a new Cabela's nearby, and I am always looking for an excuse to stop. I am not familiar with CCI stingers. It will be interesting to see how my old 39A handles them. I do like the sub-sonics.

Much obliged. 1776Patriot

Patriot,

If you shoot at a range, just look in the trash barrels on the site. Generally there are several of either the empty Stinger boxes or MiniMag boxes (hold 100 in the same arrangement), and the price is FREE!!!! Might take a time or two looking, but most generally they show up regularly!

Happy hunting!

Patrot,

If loose rounds are such a bother, why not just shoot until you have used up the entire box, problem solved.
