The trigger on my 1895 is, shall I say, less than perfect. The gun is basically new. I got it NIB less than a year ago. It's a 45-70 and it's the 'regular' model with the 22" barrel.

When applying finger pressure to the trigger, the trigger moves back just the slightest amount and then tightens up again. Now the gun is ready to fire. It's almost like a military trigger, but without the design intent and with about 1/20th of the travel.

Is there anything I can do about this on my own? Is there anything that anyone can do about this without spending a ton of money? It's not really a problem in the woods, but I absolutely hate the trigger creep when I'm shooting from a bench rest.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you might offer.

www.wildwestguns.com -They make a very nice replacement trigger.

A gunsmith should be able to fix the trigger to your liking.

You could also send the rifle back to Marlin.

Tom G,

I know the feeling. My 1895GG suffers from the same ailment. I ordered the "Trigger Happy Kit" by Wild West Guns from Brownell's.

I had a choice between installing it in the 1895GG or the 1894CB. I chose the 1894. It is well worth the money. I don't have a trigger pull gage so I cannot tell you the weight of pull. But it is crisp, clean and significantly lighter than the factory trigger. No "Marlin Flop." Almost no side play. No waiting into next week for the trigger to break.

Side by side: The difference between the 1895 with it's factory trigger, and the 1894 with the WW trigger is dramatic.

I was torn between which gun to modify. Now I will buy another trigger and drop it in the 1895GG. This is the trigger that should ship from the factory.

The link below is what I used for the disassembly/reassembly. The directions are simple and straight forward. One thing to note. You will need a punch or small nail to drive the pin that holds the trigger in place to the side. Then you can drop the trigger in.
