I'm curious. How have y'all personalized your 336 rifles? Sights, levers, ect. ? How have you made your levergun fit YOUR ideal? I'm just curious because when I purchased my rifle yesterday I spent the rest of the night on the net searching catalogs for the parts to make my rifle MINE. Sounds a little silly, I know, but to me a levergun is a personal thing, kind of how the Samuri must have felt about their swords, or a biker with his Harley. An extention of ones self. Perhaps a bit silly yes, but it's the way I see it.

I got a 336RC in 1967. In 1971, my father gave me a Browning 22 semiauto. The fine finish of the Browning made my Marlin look real plain so I decided to do something about it.
I took the metal parts to a local gunsmith and had them polished and re-blued( cost me $20.00 back then) while I refinished the wood with tru oil. I also removed the white line spacers. It is one beautiful Marlin.

Shoot a hog with it!
Actually, MikeG, I was thinking about shooting a hog with my new 1895CB this coming fall. I'm going to shoot it for the first time this coming weekend.

I felt the same way, over the last year since I've owned my marlin 30/30 I have added an ashley ghost ring sight, and then replaced that front sight with a firesight. I put on a new trigger, wwg happy trigger, I highly recommend the trigger. I shortened the length of pull,so it would fit mine. I cut the barrel down to 17 and 5/8", to make it a little handier. I cut the magazine tube down, the tube only holds 3 rounds and just barely protrudes out of the fore stock. That change eliminated the foreward barrel band, and pretty much eliminated a warm barrel accuracy problem, no more flyers. I haven't done it yet, but soon I will add the scout mount, and leopold scout scope. I haven't decided about one of the larger glove levers yet. I've spent some money on the rifle, but I did personalize it. And its been well worth it. Bill

I have a '54 Texan in .35 Rem. and a Win. '94-30/30 that I have shortened to 16".
I like the 16" barrel on the Winchester and the .35 caliber in the Marlin so have picked up a 'kinda rough Marlin .35 and am in the process of changing it over to straight grip with a 16"barrel and a square lever.
Metalwork on the rifle itself is done, have to finish the wood and make one of my front sights and do a rust blue job and I'll take a picture. Dave

Mines a 1963 336 SC. I just refinished the stock with boiled linseed oil and it came out great. I've also replaced the front sight-both ramp and bead with a williams shorty and a firesight combination, and put a williams wgrs receiver sight on it. I'm still debating reblueing as thats a pretty pricy job these days. A big part of the attraction of this gun is that its been so economical to own.
This gun is very accurate, and a joy to shoot. Now I just need to find that perfect cast load so shooting it will be low-cost too...

Old Bones what you have is a classic case of malinitus and you'll just have put up with it there is no known cure, periodically you'll have to buy a new levergun to modify and shoot and baby like it was your first born. Know what you mean all my marlins have a piece of me in them, the last a 1949 336A in 32spcl has a action and trigger job, fore arm was narrowed to cowboy width, soon it will become a straight stock. Take care and have fun. Swany
Bill Kavanagh,
Do you have any pics you can e-mail? That sounds really nice. Something I would like to do with mine.
Thanks,
Dave :)

Here's my 60's RC (bottom) . 40 years have made the action slick and the trigger has less than twolb. pull. Boiled linseed for the first 6 coats then 2 coats of a fine interior rubbed effect marine varnish to help shed pluff mud. Added Stock shell holder til I can find cheep leather ammo belts to cross my chest(HA).

Well, I've added the W.W.G. 'bear proof' ejector, and their large loop lever, and boy does the action feel a whole lot better for me :D ! My hand just wasn't comfortable in the little stock lever. I also ordered a Brockman ghost ring sight, and post front. If I like this set up I'll upgrade to the gen 3 front sight when I can afford it. Seems I'm 'building' a bit of a hybrid here  . We'll see how this works for now.

I have one of the 336 lever rifles in stainless. really sharp and accurate too. I'd like to get some 110 grain bullets to reload so I could plink with it some.

I'm a bit excited today! I got my Marbles fold down rear/barrel sight and the Brockman ghost ring sight in this morning, and just finished installing them a minute ago. The backup Marbles sight is fully adj. for windage/elevation yet when folded is out of the way of the sight picture between the ghost ring and the front bead. And it is a lot smaller than the stock unit. The Brockman unit is very sturdy. It looks a mite strange, but it fits me to a T! I just can't wait to get out and get her sighted in!

I had some professional engraving completed. Got the idea from observing a couple Commemorative Winchester 94's.
A little scrollwork here and there adds great personal value yet cost is quite affordable.

Personalizing Marlins is nothing new. Seems that folks in the last century did the same thing too!
I own an 1881 Marlin lever action that was given the custom treatment by Emil Flues, a famous gunsmith and designer, back in the turn of the last century. The gun belonged to a judge in Saginaw, Mi. and he wanted it to be different and personalized. Flues modified the lower tang to a pistol grip, stocked it with XXXX deluxe Circassian walnut, checkered it at 28 lines per inch, added a Swiss Schuetzen style nickel buttplate, and casehardened the receiver. A Special Flexible base Marbles tang sight was also added.
The gun is definitely one of a kind, and I'm sure the original owner was quite proud of it.

Well Come On T.R., we want some PICTURES! :)
I haven't decided what to do with my Marlins yet, I like the idea of thinning the forends, and my 336C would look really cool with a quarter-length magazine, thus eliminating the barrel band.......A two- or three-shooter works fine for me in that caliber, when was the last time you needed four quick shots at game?
I also remember seeing some of the artwork the American Indians did on their guns, upholstery tack designs on the stocks, carvings, that kinda stuff. Anybody done anything along those lines?
