I took apart the bolt on my 1894 for cleaning/oiling. For the life of me, I can not figure out how to reassemble/position the firing pin spring with the 2 piece firing pin. It just slides down into the bolt.

HELP!!

Thanks Butch but I've already been there. There is an exploded parts view available on that site...I have the same view but with the actual bolt, spring and firing pin displayed on my work bench :D

Does the spring have a right angled bend at one end? If not then it is broken. I had to replace a broken firing pin a few weeks ago and there seemed to be no way to locate the spring. When I ordered a new firing pin I ordered a new spring as well and then it was obvious. The right angled bend locates in the slot about 1/2" from the rear of the firing pin and lies along the flat.

Hope this is of use.

The forward firing pin holds it in place, there is a small indent where the flat spring goes that is to say the hook like area of the spring and then all it does is hold the rearward pin down when the bolt is open. Actually it will work with out it, but it is part of a safety device that should not be defeated, though a lot of CAS members use the one piece firing pin and defeat this. That is one more option you have to get a one piece if you have the CBS it would be safer.
