Howdy all!

I have a question regarding an old single shot that I have. It is an F/N with the stylized links rollstamp on the front receiver ring. The rifle dates to the mid 1890's, and is a fine shooter.

The barrel has a rollstamp that reads "The Maine". I have been to the Antique Collector's Forum and a few other boards, without finding out the meaning of that roll stamp. There were suggestions that it commemorated the sinking of the battleship "The Maine", but nothing definitive. If anyone knows anything about this, I would like to hear about it.
Thanks in advance...
