View Full Version : Ranch Dogs' postal match
Ranch Dog was just wondering if you were going to hold another postal match? I didn't get a chance last year to compete and was just wondering if you were going to do another this year.?

You can bet that when Ranch Dog gets settled in and the dust settles from Mt he will issue the challenge. Just sit tight for a while and it will come. He had also posted a link for the targets we will be using this year. Here thay are:

You can do a search on MT before it closes down on the 20th of Feb. for the rules. I am sure he will post them or something similar wherever he decides to hang his hat.

I don't know if you fellas are aware of it or not, but Marshall has a whole host of resources on the home page. Here's a link to the Beartooth targets, free to print http://www.beartoothbullets.com/misc/targets.htm

Hey fellows...
You can bet the RD's Postal Match II will be held and our host right here at BTBs has been most supportive of the efforts to get it in play. There are some great resources right here on this sight and we will be shooting at a BTB target very similar to the one mentioned by VTDW... In fact, it's a little easier to see for those like me with old eyes!
Us Marlin boys are going to need to step up to the plate, as any centerfire leveraction will be fair game this year. Now, now, some of you fellows might puff up about others playing with others but what an excellent opportunity to show'm how great these Marlins are. Of course, my dad has vowed to woop me with his M94 and my wife with her M99!
RanchDog,
If I remember correctly, some women outshot some of the guys in last year's postal match.
Dave :)
Thanks a bunch for all of the feedback guys. I am really looking forward to participating as long as I am not busy with recruiting school. I still have yet to shoot my new 336 as the weather up here is still frigid :( . Can't wait to go sight it in though, man Marlinitis sucks :D
336A,
Get ready to have fun and shoot a lot. I got Sooooo frustrated with the first RD Postal Match but it forced me to really concentrate and become a much better shot and to know my rifles. A 3 shot group is one thing but a 5 shot group is another matter completely. :D
I will bet a bag of M&Ms on Big Medicine right now!!
Dave :)

Thanks for the vote VTDW, but you never know. I think there will be a lot of good shooters. I have been busy getting loaded up for the match. I might even have to break out my mod 95 Win in 30-03 for this match. It is an orginal saddle ring carbine. Last time I shot it was a couple years ago. Put a big doe down in her tracks.
JB12string,
Heck no we arnt scared of the bolt guns ;) , its just more fun with the levers.

Does that mean there is a chance of us bolt gunners getting in? maybe just a few of us?

Sorry dudes... you've got to have a lever to play in this event. Scared... not in the least, but we will be able to let you see this year. Sub MOA accurancy is the rule and the winning 5-shot groups where 1/2" or less.
Here is what's going on... Our gracious host, Beartooth Bullets, is helping with the event this year and the Ranch Dog is pretty excited about it. Sheila has enlisted the help of another judge this year, Jake (on right)...

They are just about ready to launch this years event.
This year we will be shooting at a bullseye type target that will be downloaded off of this web site plus part of this forum will be deticated to the Match and displaying those targets. Beartooth Bullets and Sheila's home of Hondo Creek Ranch will be offering some excellent prizes for top shooters and random drawings from submitted targets. We are hammering out the details as I write... the cow-dog goes under the knife in the morning... keep my best friend in your prayers please.

It's good to see some of the ole family from MT.
I'm new here so could someone please tell me what a "bolt gun" is? Does it shoot standard or metric? I don't recall ever hearing of one of those contraptions over on the old Marlin Talk. ;) :D

Most bolt guns shoot standard bolts although a few shoot metric. depending on muzzle velocity, some guns use fine threads while others use coarse thread, left handed bolt guns natrually use reverse threads. most shooters don't use washers or nuts, but there are a few shooter out there who stack on various combontations of washers and nuts to achieve greater accuracy. never use loctite in a bolt gun as it will likely cause high pressure in the chamber and could cause explosions
