This time it's "A Treasury of Outdoor Life" edited by William Rae,former editor in chief of Outdoor Life in 1975..
He looked thru and read most every issue from 1898-1973 and put around 75 or so of the best articles in it.
Fascinating,to say the least.
Names,well lets see there's Lieutenant Townsend Whelen from December 1906,Zane Grey,Ben East,Charles Askins,Jr.,Jack O'Connor, among others..
Everytime I read stuff like this it makes my mind wonder (and wander, being a traditionalist) about where we are today.
Have we lost it,I think we have..
We've got to have the latest gee whiz flash bang magnum, and the finest bullets money can buy.
Whelen spoke of the outstanding performance of his Mannlicher (never stated the caliber) and it's blazing 2000 fps MV,and flat shooting out to 400 yards, and how it dropped everything solidly.
He also spoke of his partner on this six month exploration around Hudson Bay,said Bill was one of the finest shots he knew,Bill shot a running wide open buck at one hundred yards five times with his M94 and there were five close grouped bullet holes in him..COOL..
