I have been shooting Contenders for more than a decade now. Mine is stainless and I have currently 9 barrels for it. If I'm not in the mood for reloading, I grab one of the 22 match barrels for it, a 14" scoped or the 10" iron sighted barrel. If I want to blast I grab a 44 magnum or 30-30 barrel. The 357 barrel is fun but I think right now, my favorite fun barrel is the 223 shooting out of a 10" tube. Absolutely no recoil but a nice muzzle flash and a decent boom. The contenders are super accurate and VERY easy to clean. The only thing that stinks is I like Stainless and T/C discontinued the stainless model in favor of the Encore. I recently got another SS frame (on line search) in mint shape and made a carbine out of it. I am a big fan of these single shots!

Me too!!!!
I have 6 barrels, all blue
14" .222
14" 30/30 ported
14" 45 / 410
14" 6 mm TCU
14" .22rf Match
10" .256 Win Mag

I am thinking about getting a new G2 for hunting. Just thinking about it because of all the red tape that you must go through here in NJ

If you want something very close to stainless and you cannot find one, try the SSK hard chorme. When I got my first I called TC about them coming out with a SS line and was told in no uncertain terms that they NEVER would make the Contender in stainless. They were a little rude about it too which I found to be very odd. I bought the blue, and you guessed it, the very next year there they were in stainless steel. I could have shot them. They flat out lied to me about that as there was no way they could have not known the ss version was in the works. The time from my call to them hitting the gun rags was only about 4 months, so they knew. Anyway, I sent the piece to SSK and had them hard chrome it. Fantastic. It looks just like stainless and matches a TC 30-30 stainless steel barrel (that was rechambered to .309 JDJ) I picked up a couple of years later perfectly. So, that tells you how long it has been since it was finished in HC and it still looks like new, inside and out. The only thing that was not HC was the interior of the barrel and the extractor, but everything else that I can see is HC finished.

You can also try Metaloy Co. for plating which I understand at one time did SSK's plating work for them.

Think Metaloy gets about $25 per barrel for plating now.

I really want a Contender or Encore. Where can I get one in 260 Remington or the new military 6.8mmx43mm?
TCarms.com does not list a 260 or even a 30/30.

260 will be an Encore only proposition. The custom shop has the 30/30 for an Encore.

I don't see a 260 on their list though it's possible they are chambering it now at the custom shop. Might give them a call.

Of course there are a gazillion custom options for after market barrel makers.
