Just found this site, great info.. Thanks..
Question.
I just got a Winchester Ranger in 357. I called Winchester and was told it will not chamber 38s? Who is right ?
Thanks for any help.. Rick

It WILL chamber them.

It may not feed from the magazine reliably. This is the bane of repeating rifles in .357 mag.

Now - it might not on the first attempt, either, but it's entirely possible that you could fiddle with different .38 loadings and get it to work.

Personally.... if you reload, just make up some .38 special loads in .357 brass. Problem solved!

Rick,

Your rifle indeed will fire .38 spcl ammo, again feeding might be an issue, but I can't imagine why. I've had numerous Marlin 1894's and Rossi 92's in .357, and they have all fed .38 spcl ammo perfectly. I haven't had experience with the M94 Win in this caliber however, so can't comment.

I will say this, that the bullet design might be critical as to whether the ammo will feed properly. Any RNFP style bullet feeds great in my various .357 carbines, when loaded in .38 spcl cases. However, some of the SWC designs are less than cooperative in this regard. Something for your consideration.

Let us know what you find with your rifle. :)

God Bless,

Marshall.

Thanks very much for the information. Your idea about using
RNFP bullets sounds good ! I am going to give it a try. As soon as the rain stops here in N. Ca I'm heading to the range.
Thanks again..... Rick
