I saw a Ruger model referred to on the Gary Reeder site as the Hunter but, the only reference to "Hunter" I could find on the Ruger site pointed to 2 different, single-action, New Model Super Blackhawk models, i.e., not a Redhawk (?) ...
1) Hunter Model KS-47NHNN ... with Standard Grip, Hammer and Trigger
2) Hunter Model KS-47NHB ... with Bisley Grip, Hammer and Trigger.
There's a description and picture of the Bisley Super Blackhawk at ...
http://www.ruger.com/Firearms/FAProdView?model=862&return=Y (http://www.ruger.com/Firearms/FAProdView?model=862&return=Y)
Both Hunter models have Non-Fluted cylinders and scope mounts though, I'd stay with the iron sights. Anyone own this new Bisley Model?

Bill, check out the Bisley. For me it fits good and points better the the standard SBH revolver. I've got the Standard grip and would prefer the Bisley. But the SBH did'nt come with the Bisley grip when I bought it. Try it. I think you'll like the feel of the Bisley. Let me know. Robie.

Robie,

I've used a New Model SBH for about 4 years ... Really like the feel and balance ... Can regularly put 6 into 4" at 25 ft rapid fire. However, I've had my 1894 Marlin reworked to cycle longer (350 gr) .44 Mag cartridges and would like to run the same (new) ammo in the SBH. But, I think she's a bit worn out to safely handle this hotter ammo.
You're not the first one to recommend the Bisley grip. I've heard it handles recoil better but, I also see the Bisley hammer spur rides much lower than SBH, i.e., that may make single-action recovery ever faster. My local shop has a special run of (non-standard) .41 Mag Bisley SBH's so, I'll have the Bisley grip, Hammer (spur) and Trigger in my hands tomorrow. They told me the Bisley .44 Mag SBH is available within days. I'll let you know how the Bisley grip and Hammer spur feel.

I have a SBH in .41 magnum and love it. I really can't find anything wrong with it except that it is heavier than some of my other guns (which isn't neccesarily a bad thing).

I bought a Bisley hunter in 44mag last year. I am really happy with it, shoots great and fits my hand better then the regular sbh grip frame. Fit and finish could have been a little better for a 500 dollar gun but nothing so bad I cant live with.

flinch444,
I bought a Bisley hunter in 44mag last year. I am really happy with it, shoots great and fits my hand better then the regular SBH grip frame.Great news. I actually have a good fit with the present SBH grip. But, the Bisley looks better (at least) due to being somewhat longer in length. Have one in my hand tomorrow. But, until I can actually see how it rolls in my hand under recoil, I won't know for sure if Bisley is best (for my hand).

Guys,
Change of plans - Chapter 2 ...
They sold that .41 Mag Bisley Hunter SBH before I arrived today so, couldn't wrap my hand around that new grip :(
However, there's now a 7-1/2", .44 Mag, Bisley Hunter SBH on order (FOR ME).
Should be in this time next week.
Stay tuned,
Bill

Hey, does anyone here own one of these beauties?
I own a New Model .44 Mag SBH for about 3 years and, am looking forward to that lowered-profile Bisley hammer and longer Bisley grip.

I have one - got the .44Mag Bisley Hunter about 4 months ago now. Great gun and I bought it sight unseen (NIB - had to be ordered). You won't be disapointed, the grip is sooo much better than the regular SBH grip.

I got mine a couple weeks ago,and I'm pretty ecstatic about it! I'd originally planned to scope it but as I'm busting clays consistently out to 45 yds without,I'm reconsidering. I'v got a Belt Mountain pin on the way and will have it tuned and polished when I bring myself to let it go for week or two.

Question: What do you think about the lower profile (Bisley) hammer spur? Is it an improvement for cocking the action? With the regular SBH (grip and) hammer spur, I can usually put 6 into 4" at 25ft within 10 secs. I've been trying to get a sense of the lowered-spur by mentally thinking out what my thumb is doing during grip-roll. The problem with this mental picture is, I don't yet "know" the Bisley grip-roll so, I can't "image" what that lowered-spur means for my thumb.

I've also considered a scope: What size barrel do you have? I've ordered 7-1/2" like my present SBH. I've got scopes on all my rifles but, I've never scoped a handgun! Though, with Tim Sundles (Buffalo Bore) 350gr load (see the "Tame" .44 Mag Wildcat thread on Leverguns and Their Cartridges), hunting out to 100 yds would be a lot easier with a scope since drop could be better compensated. Have also been considering modifications, but want to break-in 100 rounds of normal 240gr Rem jacketed (with frequent copper cleaning) to prepare for 100% Hard Cast loads. Then, 100 rounds of Hard Cast to get a sense of accuracy/repeatability. Been talking with Gary Reeder about his ULTIMATE 44 conversion. Gary also uses a Belt Mountain base pin. Additionally, Gary replaces the Hunter cylinder with a LONGER, 5-shot custom cylinder. This, of course, allows more handloading flexibility.

Looking on Ruger's website, I see this:
New Model Blackhawk®
Single Action Revolver · KRBN-455W
but cannot find it anywhere... Anyone know where I can find it? I assume they still manufacture it, since it's currently on the website.

The Ruger site says it's a
Limited Edition ACUSPORT # 0470
Stainless 45 Colt Bisley with Rollmarked, Unfluted Cylinder.

You need to find a dealer that will order you one directly from Acusport or this place has a good price on it. That ones been beckoning to me also. :D http://www.marksmansmart.com/

Bill,I'v got the 7 1/2 bbl Bisley. I'll be hunting in timber and clearcuts here and its unlikely I'd have a shot over 40,50 yds . But if you need it and don't have it? :( The added weight would also help to dampen recoil somewhat, with heavy full power loads. I'v got a Reddot I'm going to try also, which would be lighter and a little quicker sight aquisition. The only other modification I'm going to do is a Bowen Rough Country sight.

I think you'll like the grip frame, its a definite improvement. I can't wait to get out and put some more downrange. Some of the best fun I'v had standing up! :p

Well, the Bisley doesn't roll like the regular SBH does. It feels a lot more like a SRH than an SBH based on the recoil profile. So yeah, the lowerd hammer helps because it doesn't roll as much.
I haven't ever shot for speed though, so I can't comment on that part of it.
And if you are looking for a scope (I am), I think I have convinced myself to go with something that is in the 2 to 4 x range. 2x for fixed and 2 to 6 x for variable. Probably go with a fixed power though. A red dot wouldn't be a bad choice either, but it would look wrong on this gun.

My Bisley Hunter SBH arrived early - picked it up last night (Monday, 3/1).
This stainless SBH seems a bit larger than my blued (carbon) steel SBH.
The grips appear to be of a black/gray laminate that was delivered warped ... disappointing :(
So, ordered a pair of Cocobolo (a rosewood type wood) from Sporting Arms Custom Grips, Cocobolo Supply Company.
See http://www.woodgrips.com/ruger_bisley.htm (http://www.woodgrips.com/ruger_bisley.htm).
This company is owned and operated by Greg Warne, founder and retired President of Kimber. I've had some experience with Cocobolo grip panels on my Kimber CDP and Super Match 45's ... great wood!
Gave it a thorough cleaning/oiling.
Weather permitting, will break it in this weekend while comparing that Bisley Grip/Hammer with my original SBH.
Let's see how grip-roll works with this Bisley and, how my timing works with this lowered (Bisley) hammer spur.
Stay tuned,
Bill
