I bought the pre 64 model 94 and wanted to thank you guys for all the advice.

I'm happy with the purchase. This is my first winchester so I don't know a lot about them, but this rifle seems tight, has a crisp trigger, and looks good. The bore is beautiful. I'll shoot it ina couple of weeks.

Anybody have a link that would tell me how to take this gun apart? Especially how to get the forearm off. The front sight ramp doesn't appear to be screwed on like a Marlin. Do you just loosen the front band screw and slide the magazine tube out through the band?

Congrat's.

To get the forearm off, remove the magazine cap screw and the front and rear barrel band screws. You may have to wiggle the magazine tube as your pulling on it, depends on the care the carbine has received over the years, the tube will sometimes rust at the receiver end. When the tube is out, the barrel bands will lift over the front sight and it is silver soldered on. This site might be a help, the gun being taken down is a post-64, but they disassemble pretty much the same until 1978. Winchester takedown (http://members.fortunecity.com/oldvalkyry/winch.html).

Well on the other forum I asked questions about the pre 64 Vs the post 64 Model 94 that I was looking at .
Thepost 64 was built in the 80,s and looked real good . As a matter of fact brand new. I picked up the pre 64 biult in 1958 and there is an intirely different feel to this rifle. the bluing well worn from being carried. The stock need a bit of oil to return the finish.
It was more money and yes I am taking it home.

Congrats Harry,

Now the first 94 I bought was made in 59.
It is tough on the outside , but has a very good barrel and reciever. .
I take it that both these guns saw a lot of bush but few rounds.
Well now they will see some bush and will be seeing a lot of lead rounds at the range. I am not collecting , I'm shootin' these fine rifles.
I have a Marlin 336/35 RC with a straight stock. It was made in '54. I shoot a lot of lead through this rifle also.
finding 1st fired 35 cases a real problem and new case's pricy.
Think the levers from this time period are the best.

NIce buy Harry,
Did you look at the pre 64 at Williams Arms? It's in very good condition and is selling for 400. It's a 1958 also. Gee!!! I never thought! Is that the one you bought? If it is that gun is in great shape. No wear on that girl. Anyways talk to you again soon.

Williams is a bit of a drive for me.If there was a show or something that we were both attending I would ask him to bring the rifle. Does he have a web site?If I knew what he had on the rack maybe I would take one of the days off for the trip. We constantly purchase primers etc in bulk. ;)
At the Orillia Club were I am a member , we always stop in at Epps to browse, and they also have a web site, so we are on top of the new and used rifles etc. that they have in inventory.
Thus we are contantly buying selling and trading.
