dixie gun works lists there long range as 1-18 twist there bodine is listed as 1-18 & there buffalo is listed as 1-22. I have both the long range & bodine , I would prefer there bodine, but you might have to do somthing to make wt. as it is listed as 13 pounds. I changed the rear sight to a shaver soule, works great.

I have no experiance with the 1 22 twist but the 1 18 twist shoots the lyman postal 535 grains great in my rifles.

The important thing is the length of the bullet, not its weight (although of course the two are very closely related). Use the Greenhill formula to figure it out:
twist required = (150 x caliber squared) / bullet length
All numbers are in inches. Just taking a guess that your bullet is 1.4" long, we would get:
(150 x .45 x .45)/1.4 = 21.7
Some people say for black powder loads you need to use a smaller constant than 150, around 125 or so. If you use 125, then the twist required becomes 18.1.
If that Saeco bullet turns out to be too long, or if you're worried about it, there are some shorter bullets in the 475-500 gr range that might work well for silhouette. Also, a round nose bullet would be short for its weight - the Lyman Government (#457125) bullet at around 515 gr. comes to mind.
