DLS and I have discussed the age of our Winchester 9422s several times, both here and at Levergun.com forums.
I called Winchester today doing some research on another subject and decided to ask them.
The tech looked up the serial number of my 9422 and gave me the year of manufacture.
F242XXX was made in 1976. I didn't get any more information, but if you call 1-800-333-3288, and ask to speak to a tech they should be able to help you find out what year your gun was made in.
He also told me there is a serial number list with dates in the back of the Blue Book of gun values. I've not seen this book in many eons so I can't say for sure what's there.
