View Full Version : Hard cast heavies for the 41
Was just wondering if any of you had any experiences with heavey hard cast bullets in the 41 mag 1894 FG. Good or bad would like to hear about them. I am thinking about purchasing one of these fine little carbines but would like to load up some real ammo utilizing some of Marshalls Heavey weights. On that note does anyone know if the big 41 280gr would be to long to function through a Marlin just a thought. Talk about knocking the you know what out of a black bear in a nice handy carbine :D I'm sure it would put the old smarts in him for sure. Thanks 336A.

I would like very much to have one of those 41mag lever guns! I do not have one but I'll throw out another consideration. The 1894's in 44 mag can have trouble feeding all but somewhat round noses. My 1894p will easily feed the BtB 300 gr lfn bullet. The probem is that is jams on every other round. It jams high on the frame just before the bullet goes into the barrel. If you take any of the lfn Beartooth designs, they feed like the proverbeal hot knife through butter. The same is true for any of the rnfp lead bullets I have used (sorry, not much info on jacketed bullets).
I am pretty sure there is somebody who knows about these issues specifically to the 41 mag.

I have it on pretty good authority that anything much heavier than a 250-grain WFN has problematic feeding in the Marlin action. I personally haven't tried anything heavier or LFN's myself.
