I have started casting bullets and wonder if it is ok to shoot a gas check bullet with out the gas check? And will lee liquid alox work on the bullets with the lube groves in them, not the tl bullets? Thanks Kurt

It's going to get out the barrel but wouldn't the base allow the pressure to get past the bullet quicker. I believe most bases are about .03 smaller in diameter to accept the gas check.
The Lee Liquid Alox will work on a regular lube groove bullet. I just used it on a batch of bullets. It took a couple of tumbles in the container to competely fill the grooves.

The the bullet diameter is large enough to seal the bore and the pressure is LOW (so the velocity is also low), can use gas-checked bullets without the gas checks. Seems to work better with longer bearing area bullets.
So long as the diameter of the bullet is large enough to seal the bore, the gas won't by-pass the bullet.
One trick, if you don't mind the smoke of buring lube, is to liquid alox them and set them on their NOSE to dry leaving a layer on the base. Works well on PB bullets as well as GC bullets without the gas checks. Lube never seems to really get dry, so after a day, dip the sticky base of the bullet in motor mica (a white powder with some lube quality).
