While cleaning out the old printing press of Linotype, the fellow helping me loaded up three unopened boxes of this stuff. The boxes were from Linotype, weighed 20 pounds each and had an insured value of $225 each. It's hard to read the shipping data but they seemed to be shipped back in the 70's. They appear to be solid brass. They each have one letter on them. Are they letter molds for casting the linotype and do you think they have any value?

Ok I will try this again. If it posts twice please forgive me.
The items in question are from an old linotype machine. They are either brass or copper I can't remember which. They were sorted by the lino machine and cast the type. After this they were resorted and used again. Wes

Thanks Hammerhead...
I went to eBay and search for "Linotype", man oh man the prices for that lead. Anyway, there is a fellow that operates these machines so I sent him an email to see what he says about them.
I opened the other boxes, they were sealed, and there was a little info with them. Apparently they are letter molds. One box has letters that are about 36 in size.
Thanks Wes

RD forget the fools on e-bay and their price for lino they are out to lunch. Now the boxes you opened were they individual letters or were they brass like the ones in the picture?
There is one * * * * of a difference if they are individual letters and heavey like lino or something then you have another kind of type metal. I have never seen brass letters of that size. But then again I am not an expert on printing matters I just have bought out several old shops and am now starting to look for more. I think I am going to get back into the commercial aspect of casting. I have two boys who need things to keep them busy other than girls.... LOL .... Well later for now..... Wes

Wes,
I believe the items in the picture above are molds for individual letters. There is a letter on each of them on the flat side surface. The boxes are marked with the style of type and size. The metal is brass.

RD thats what I was trying to explain in my original post. These little brass items were what the lino machine used to cast the type metal into to make the lines of type.
I would think that you could sell or trade them to a recycler for $$$ or lead or something. Wes
