Are all the Marlin lever action rifles made with the same size butt? I have a saddle ring 1894 purchased in the early 1970's, and the Limb Saver pre-fit recoil pads are listed for the Marlin 444 rifles. A gunsmith told me all the Marlins are the same size. True?

I bought a pre-fit for my 1894. I think it was listed for an 1894 cowboy. Anyway, it didn't fit.

You can download and print a template for all the pads Limbsaver makes from there website then see which is closest or if the pre-fit matches up.

I saw some pictures of my ancestors from about 1894 and the girls all had ENORMOUS BUTTS , My Grandmother later told me the hoop skirts they wore made them look that way.

Neal,
My collection contains Marlins with Cresent buttplates, Shotgun buttplates, and S buttplates. I beleive Marlin calls them (Rifle, Shotgun, and Carbine buttplates). I also have some with Straight grip stocks with all three types, and some with pistol grips in both the cresent and shotgun styles. One with a cheekpeice on a straight grip Cresent, and one with a cheek peice on a pistol grip with a shotgun butplate, so as you can see all Marlins are not the same. If you are wanting a recoil pad on a flat buttstock. get a Pachmyer and fit it. this will require grinding the pad to contour.
