i have a winchester model 70 pre-64 in 22 hornet. it is a great gun but i am having some trouble finding scope mounts for it. all the places ive looked do not explain thier mounts precicely enough for me to risk buying them. any help would be appreciated

Hi,

A Winchester M70 should be quite simple to find a scope base, as long as it's been drilled & tapped by the factory and you can measure the hole spacing to confirm before buying.

I would call Brownell's and see what they recommend:

A Winchester Model 70 uses a Weaver #46 front base and a #47 rear base, useless the rear hole spacing is different than the front. If it is different, use a #49A rear base. Brownells should have charts for other makes.

Warne, Buehler, Leupold, etc... all make bases for the pre-64's. There are two different hole spacings for the rear base. I believe one is .430" and the other is .860".
