I am thinking about buying a 30.30 lever action Marlin 336. Is this a good gun? and what is a fair price to pay for it (brand new). I have a 30.06 now scoped but we do alot of driving for deer and am thinking i would like a guns with sights that i can pull up quickly and is easy to walk with in the woods.

anyone have opinions on this gun..?? (for white tail deer in the midwest)

what's a good price ? $299 is what i can get if for.

You don't say where your from but, 299.00 should get you the hardwood stocked 336 sometimes with a 4x scope packaged with it . If all you can find is the gun at that price don't sweat it the scope they supply is about the bottom of the food chain as far as optics go and you want to use open type sights anyway. The 336cs (Fancy walnut stocked) will usually sell for $350.00 ish if not on sale at a shop.

Hi 444fitch,

$299 sounds like a VERY good price to me. I live in Colorado and haven't seen any prices quite that low. What state do you live in anyway? ( I guess if you say Colorado I need to be a better shopper!!)

Thanks

They are excellent guns for whitetail deer out to 150-175 yards. They are short and easy to carry. They are low recoil, ammo is cheap and easy to find.

The hardwood stocked 336's can be had at any of the larger chainstores i.e. K-mart, Wal-mart for 300.00 or less during the sale season on this type item (fall) . Their pricing is usually kept uniform across the nation. Most any smaller gun stores in the vicinity of the larger stores usually will have to offer a like item for a comparable price or lose a sale. If their luckey they'll make up the loss on other services and gizmos the Mart's don't offer .

The Walmart's in the Oklahoma City area sell the 336W for $279 + tax.

If you have the extra scratch, buy the 336C (with the walnut stock) over the 336W or 336A. For the small of stature, the 336Y is also walnut. For the $50 or so you pay, the nice wood is worth the money, IMO.

I don't have my chart handy but I think the AC indicates 1967 manufacture. The straight stock is just a variation, I believe it is called a Texan model.
