Anyone know if there is such an animal available as a 3" barrell for a SW 686? I have a chance to get a fairly good deal on a 686 stainless. The barrell on it is presently a 4" and I really want a 3" to make it a bit easier for CCW. Another option that I am not sure if exists would be to get the barrell modified, anyone know if this is an expensive venture ?
Moved to this forum for board conformity.
Thanks for the posting.

Pretty sure all you can get is a 2.5 inch factory tube. Numrich has plenty to choose from. To modify the existing 4 inch barrel to 3 inches you'd have to mill off the remainder of the ramp to get a flat surface and scab on a new ramp to get the blade high enough. I think I'd go with the 2.5.

Check with Numrich/Gun Parts Corp., they might have some 3" 66/686 barrels in stock. Ever think of Putting a Python barrel on there? Depending on who you ask, the gun becomes either a Smython or a Smolt! :p
