Hey everyone, I currently have a Mossberg 500, and when I bought it, I bought the combo back that comes with the fully rifled barrel, now that I got into shooting slugs more, I was thinking about putting a scope on it, the only problem is that, I asked around everywhere, even emailed the manufacture to ask if there is any kind of cantilever scope mount that I could put on the barrel, all of my responses were no. Therefore, my last two results are going to a gunsmith to see if he can customly make it(haven't gotten around to doing that) or, getting another reciever with stock, I would much rather have a another whole gun, but I dont know where, and if it is possible to just buy the reciever for a Mossberg 500. The reason why I want this extra reciever is because if I can't get a custom scope mount at the gunsmith's then I would have to put a mount on my whole reciever and therefore not allowing me to shoot my shot barrel at trap, skeet, etc. If anyone has any information on where I could get something like this, I would gladly appreciate that.

I think that the whole receiver would count under BATF rules as a firearm - maybe someone can verify this for sure - but if it is Mossberg would decline to sell to someone without an FFL. However, you can't get in trouble just asking.

hi,any part of a firearm that is s# is the controled piece(recievers in this case)nfa controled parts and numbers are subject to a different grouping of laws.mossburg will not sell any recievers, period.they will at there choice repair or replace a customers if it is damaged.mavric(wich is mossburg)will sell recievers to a very limited few(not us,and i could use them).we need to be a class 7 manufacture.if you need a reciever, check out gun shows or local news papers if they allow firearms sales(some don't).as far as a cantileavered scope mount, there were some years ago, there is one for bro.a-5's,the taper on a moss is a little different than a bro. but with some work it will fit, however, the way we did it was to silver braze the mount on the barrel.i will check in to the maker tomorow for you on the mount,i don't know if there still offered.good luck. No luck on the mount,i could not find even an invoice from the last purchess of past mounts, out secretary left to become a cop,and now gunsmiths run the fileing system.i will keep trying,i need one for a customer gun.
