I am curious as to recrowning a 30-30 barrel. Every Marlin in 30-30 I've looked at has a rather 'rough' crown on the barrel, and mine is no exeption. From a purely practical point I can see recessing the crown to protect it further from damage, but would a recessed/target crown be worth it in terms of accuracy?

If the present damage is the cause of any accuracy issues then recrowning would be warranted, if the gun shoots to your liking, only further damage to the crown would affect down the road accuracy ,so clean from the breach end an don't fall down muzzle first on a gravel road and you'll be fine.

I do believe Brownells sells a crown cutter you can recrown it your self with not much effort and not have a problem.
