I was recently talking with a freind of mine about gun locks. He was saying that a trigger lock such as the Master combo trigger lock I use on my Beretta 92FS should not be used with the gun loaded. Any thoughts on this? I know the only truly safe gun is one unloaded and cable locked however......All comments welcome, and thanks. mack

Considering how most of the gun locks work, and the way people handle them when putting the lock on and off, seems like a good idea not have that Beretta with one in the chamber.

I hate the locks...but as I don't have young ones wandering around the house (and the dog hasn't grown any thumbs), I'm pleases not to use them. Seems like they promote inatttention to the muzzle of the gun.

Hmmmmmm not a big fan of the 'laoded gun under the bed' theory.

I use trigger locks when i travel to and from shooting trips they have there uses but I would recon a trigger lock on a loaded firearm would be liabillity not a asset.

Thanks for the reponses guys.....though the gun is loaded, I rarely keep a round chambered. Guess this is one of those ****ed if you do and ****ed if you don't things....

A loaded clip next to it sounds like a better idea. I would not storea gun loaded. You may discharge it when removing the lock. An autoloader like the beretta is easy to put into action with a loaded magazine nearby. You won't have time to deal with a gun lock if you need it in a hurry. If you have kids be careful, and don't put the loaded magazine where they can get it if you do leave the gun easily accesible. Greg

Personally, I won't use a trigger lock. If you are not supposed to put your finger inside the trigger gaurd until you are ready to shoot, why would you put a lock in there?

Mostly to keep OTHER PEOPLE from putting their finger in there.
With no cartirdge in the chamber it should be
ok to put the lock on and then insert the magazine, but not rack the slide.

Mack...

1) if you feel you may need to use the gun in self-defense, and store it loaded for this reason, WHY WOULD YOU LOCK IT??? what good does a loaded gun do if you can't pull the trigger???

2)if you don't have need of it for defensive reasons, then you should NEVER STORE IT LOADED!!!! why keep a gun loaded if you don't need to shoot at something with it??? seems like that's asking for trouble...

3)if you have kids, NEVER keep a gun loaded in the house!!! get good at loading quickly under pressure...if you ever have to use that gun, it will be a skill that comes in handy :)

really all of this is a moot point because "ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED".
