100gr Partitions in .257 Wrby

Out of concern for the bullet staying together at impact velocities around 3400 fps @ 100 yards and less I am trying 100 gr Partitions instead of the Hornady 100gr Interlocks.

So I was wondering if any forum members shooting this caliber are loading 100gr Partitions. If so I'd appreciate hearing your loading experience.

Thanks in advance.

Well I haven't used either in my .257, but my 25-06 puts the Hornady's out at 3350. HAMMERTIME on whitetails. I use the 115 BST in the .257.

I'm sure they'll put the deer down (the 100 gr partitions) just fine, and no foul if shot behind the shoulder where they will make a mess of the lungs and heart. Into any shoulder area, there will be a mess and meat loss. I'd suggest going to the 120's, which will carry a better trajectory way out there, and there will be less meat damage on a shoulder hit. However, at the 257 Wby velocities, there is going to be meat damage whether with the 100 gr or the 120 gr.

I don't have experience with the 257 Wby, but shoot a 25-06, and that round produces a lot of damage with 120's when the shot is not quite right, and the Wby will only magnify that.

They've worked very well in my 25-06 and a buddies Weatherby, they don't blow up in any way, but we both found the 115gr Partitions to be better on deer size game.
Another fantastic bullet is the 110gr Accubond, it never fails to kill with a bang-flop!

I appreciate the feedback, too. Need to get my .257 out some more and see what it can do.

I used the 115 Partitions a few years ago with my 257.
Wasnt a lot of excessive damage with a shoulder shot on a button buck at a range of about 75 yards.
He was DOA. The bullet acted like it just blew through. I expected to see more damage. Guess I would use them again. Did its job. Currently using the 110 Accubonds and they seem to be very good.

For 100 grainers, I would love to give the A-Frames a chance. The 3400 fps with a real chance of a close range shot where I hunt are what makes me want to give them a serious look.

A-Frames, Core-Lokt Ultras and the 115 Bergers are on the future to do list.

I haven't tried A-Frames or Accubonds as I wanted to try the Partitions first as they have a good reputation. The reviews on Midway were on 120gr A-Frames, and those at 2950 fps MV. I'm looking for 3400 fps impact velocity performance.

The A-Frame will dold up as good as anything and better than most. It is just a tougher partition.

I prefer Sierra Gamekings 100gr bullets for my .257wby. Accuracy is legendary and I've found them to hit right where you want 'em out to 425yds. I took an 8pt at 400, 3pt at 250yds and a culled doe at 75yrds. Close up or way out there it does the job.

I get them by the 100 count box for 22.00. Cant beat the price either.
