well the fellas making a living selling the hunting this an that would have us having to haul all thats necessary in on a 1 ton truck.. this to do this an that to do that..i use a scope because my eyes are bad ..also because the range of my savage demands good sight out to 3-400 yrds..
don t ask me how many ive taken out that far..but i could if i just saw one.. ive pretty much switched to predator hunting these days..
as it seems to be something im better at than deer hunting..
got me a rooster today to lure them close to the house,,as thats my hunting spot for now..dang thing didn t crow once,,i was starting to think i had a dud until he near pinched my pinky off.. hes a game rooster an hes trying to be bad,i guess..
well you fellas don t forget to buy some doe pea or whatever ,,if you out shopping tonight. slim

Deer Plots --> Boy oh boy,do them plots that you see on TV look good !!
After planting and tending deer feed plots for some years now I have come to realize that all those lush, tall, green plots that you see on them hunting shows are surrounded by high fences. Also the plots that are in some of the more hog infested areas have buried fences and/or electrified fences.
THEN.......two or three days before the film crews arrive they take down the fences to give the area a more "natural" looking environment. I have caught glimpses of fence posts in some of the hunting shows. Also the quick camera pan past a gate or two.
Not sayin' all the shows do it but would like it explained to me how the Pennington/Bio-Logic/Mossy Oak type plot could be so green and high if not fenced at the time of planting. This, unless no deer, stupid deer, or grain fed deer in another area.
I watch a hunting show, then go out to hunt my plots, and gotta snap back to reality or will break my leg trying to kick myself in the arse.
Reality is.............I guess only a "plot planter" will know the difference in a "TV plot" and a real world plot. -----pruhdlr

It's quite common to put an electric wire around a food plot, as you say to keep the hogs out! Not much else works.
If the goal is to have the plants be mature at a certain time of year (ie when the animals most need nutrition to deal with the stress of weather), then yes, even keeping the deer out for a while is beneficial. Also - cattle will eat them in no time flat.
Fencing a food plot is done for a variety of reasons and not all of them get TV shows filmed....

I watch the hunting shows sometimes, but, most of them seem a bit too surreal to me. They just dont mimick what and how most of us hunt. A buddy of mine really gets wound up tight when he watches them....he can pick out ever little inconsistancy, and "expose them for what they are"....He calls it "fictional hunting entertainment"!!! LOL!!! In reality all those shows are there for is to sell merchandise to hunters...some seem to have more ads than hunting.

Fenced in food plots are a realty down here unless you want the cattle and hogs to eat most of it. I don't think any tv show would take down a fence just to produce the show. Too much work. Deer are a cash crop just like cattle. When my feeders go off and I have 50 hogs come in and run the deer off, its time to fence in the feeders. I will do this right after hunting season. Anything to keep the pigs away. They can go mess up someone elses hunt.
